Introduction

The Astro Atomic Model (AAM) is built upon ten foundational axioms that together provide a complete, self-consistent framework for understanding physical reality. These axioms are not arbitrary postulates chosen for mathematical convenience. They are grounded in direct reasoning about the nature of space, matter, and the motion of matter\(\unicode{x2014}\)the three and only three constituents of reality.

Together, these axioms replace the abstract constructs of conventional physics\(\unicode{x2014}\)fields, forces, quantum indeterminacy, curved spacetime\(\unicode{x2014}\)with purely mechanical explanations. Every phenomenon, from the behavior of atoms to the rotation of galaxies, is explained through matter moving through space and interacting by direct contact.

The axioms are presented in a deliberate sequence. Earlier axioms establish the foundation upon which later ones build. Axiom 1 defines what exists; Axioms 2 through 5 elaborate on the properties of space and matter; Axioms 6 through 9 describe how matter behaves; and Axiom 10 reveals the self-similar structure that unifies all scales of reality into a single coherent picture.


The Three Pillars

The first axiom establishes that all phenomena reduce to three fundamental constituents: space, matter, and the motion of matter. The remaining nine axioms can be understood as elaborations on these three pillars:

Space (Axioms 2 \(\&\) 4)
These axioms define the nature of the spatial container\(\unicode{x2014}\)its three dimensions, infinite extent, and infinite divisibility\(\unicode{x2014}\)and establish that the Universe is a conceptual framework encompassing all space and matter, not a bounded physical object.
Matter (Axioms 3, 5 \(\&\) 10)
These axioms address what matter is, how much of it exists, and how it is organized. Matter is infinitely divisible, infinite in quantity, and arranged in self-similar structures that repeat across all scales.
Motion (Axioms 6, 7, 8 \(\&\) 9)
These axioms describe how matter moves through space, what energy actually is, the perpetual nature of motion, and how time itself emerges from matter in motion.

The Axioms

Axiom 1: The Foundation of Physical Reality

All phenomena can be reduced to space, matter, and the motion of matter.

This axiom establishes the ontological foundation of the entire framework. Physical reality consists of exactly three constituents: space, matter, and the motion of matter. Everything observed in nature\(\unicode{x2014}\)from gravitation to magnetism, from atomic spectra to chemical bonding\(\unicode{x2014}\)can be explained through the mechanical interactions of matter moving through space.

Crucially, this axiom eliminates fields and forces as independent entities. What conventional physics describes as fields and forces are reinterpreted as patterns of matter in motion. The concept of aether is restored\(\unicode{x2014}\)not as a mysterious substance, but as ordinary matter from smaller scales. At our similarity level, the aether consists of particles from two levels below (\(SL_{-2}\)), too small for us to observe directly but real and material nonetheless.

Axiom 2: The Nature of Space

Space is three-dimensional, infinite in extent, and infinitely divisible.

Space has exactly three dimensions\(\unicode{x2014}\)length, width, and height. It extends infinitely in all directions with no boundaries, edges, or endpoints. And it is infinitely divisible: there is no smallest unit of space, no discrete grid or pixel structure at any scale.

This axiom directly rejects several proposals from conventional physics: the higher dimensions of string theory, the finite and bounded space implied by Big Bang cosmology, and the quantized space of approaches like loop quantum gravity. In the AAM, space is the passive, unchanging container within which all matter exists and moves.

Axiom 3: The Nature of Matter

All matter has mass, and is composed of infinitely divisible matter.

Every piece of matter possesses mass\(\unicode{x2014}\)there are no massless particles. This means that entities like photons, gluons, and gravitons, which conventional physics treats as massless, do not exist as independent particles in the AAM. Light, for instance, is understood as wave motion through the aether, not as a stream of massless particles.

Matter is also infinitely divisible: there is no smallest particle, no fundamental building block beyond which matter cannot be subdivided. The Particle Uniqueness Principle further states that no two particles in the universe are exactly identical in mass or structure. Every particle is unique, a consequence of the infinite complexity inherent in infinitely divisible matter.

Axiom 4: The Universe as Concept

The Universe is a concept, which includes all space and matter.

The Universe is not a physical object with boundaries, an edge, or a center. It is a conceptual framework\(\unicode{x2014}\)the totality of all space and all matter. Just as "all real numbers" is a concept that encompasses every number without itself being a number, the Universe encompasses all of physical reality without being a distinct physical entity.

This means the Universe has no beginning and no end. It is eternal, with no creation event required. There is no "outside" the Universe, no expansion of space, and no privileged location within it. Matter clusters into structures separated by vast distances, but these structures exist within an infinite, eternal spatial context.

Axiom 5: Infinite Matter

There is an infinite amount of matter in the Universe.

Not only is matter infinitely divisible (Axiom 3), but there is an infinite total quantity of it. Matter fills infinite space in a non-uniform distribution, clustering into structures at every scale. Regions that appear empty at one scale contain vast quantities of matter at smaller scales.

With infinite matter and infinite space, there is no need for a creation event such as the Big Bang, and no possibility of a heat death. The universe contains inexhaustible energy reservoirs at every scale. Matter has always existed and will always exist, perpetually in motion.

Axiom 6: The Nature of Motion

Motion is matter's unique, continuous movement through space.

Matter traces continuous paths through space. There are no quantum jumps, no teleportation, no discontinuous changes in position. Every particle moves smoothly from one location to the next, and each particle follows a trajectory that is uniquely its own\(\unicode{x2014}\)no two particles move in exactly the same direction relative to each other.

All motion is relative. There is no absolute reference frame, no fixed point in space against which motion can be measured. Motion is always described relative to other matter. This principle of relative motion, combined with the continuity of trajectories, eliminates the probabilistic descriptions of quantum mechanics and restores a fully deterministic mechanical picture.

Axiom 7: The Nature of Energy

Energy is derived from the motion of matter.

Energy is not a substance, not an entity, and not something that can exist independently of matter. It is a calculation\(\unicode{x2014}\)a way of quantifying the motion of matter. You cannot have "pure energy" floating in a vacuum; energy is always the motion of some material substance.

What we call kinetic energy is visible motion at macroscopic scales. What we call potential energy is actually matter in motion at microscopic or submicroscopic scales\(\unicode{x2014}\)the motion is real, but too small for us to observe directly. Energy transfer is simply the transfer of motion from one piece of matter to another through collision or wave propagation. This understanding eliminates the need for massless energy carriers and reinterprets mass-energy equivalence not as matter transforming into energy, but as organized motion being redistributed.

Axiom 8: The Constancy of Motion

All matter is constantly in motion.

No particle of matter anywhere in the universe is ever truly at rest. Every particle at every similarity level is in perpetual motion relative to other matter. What appears stationary at one scale is revealed to be in vigorous motion when examined at smaller scales.

This axiom has profound consequences. Absolute zero temperature is unattainable, because temperature reflects the motion of matter, and that motion never ceases. There can be no heat death of the universe, because motion is perpetual and inexhaustible. Rest is merely a relative description\(\unicode{x2014}\)an object is "at rest" only with respect to some other object, while both are in motion relative to everything else.

Axiom 9: The Nature of Time

Time is the occurrence of matter in motion.

Time is not a dimension, not a fabric, and not an independent entity that flows on its own. Time is simply what we observe when matter moves. Without motion, there is no time. Every measurement of time is, at its root, a comparison of one motion to another\(\unicode{x2014}\)the swing of a pendulum, the vibration of a crystal, the orbit of a planet.

Because time depends on motion, and motion varies across similarity levels, time is inherently scale-dependent. Processes at the atomic scale (\(SL_{-1}\)) occur at rates vastly different from those at our scale (\(SL_{0}\)), not because time "flows differently," but because the matter involved moves at different characteristic speeds. This eliminates the need for spacetime as a physical entity and rejects time dilation as a real physical effect\(\unicode{x2014}\)clocks in different gravitational or velocity conditions simply have their internal motions altered.

Axiom 10: Self-Similarity Across Scales

The universe is organized with self-similar structure across successive similarity levels.

This is the capstone axiom, the one that ties the entire framework together. The same organizational pattern\(\unicode{x2014}\)a central massive body surrounded by orbiting bodies within a diffuse cloud\(\unicode{x2014}\)repeats at every scale of reality. Atoms are solar systems at a smaller scale. Solar systems are atoms at a larger scale. The Cosmic Region we are embedded in, and structures both larger and smaller, follow the same template; galaxies share the shape as the unconsolidated material of the level above.

The AAM formalizes this with the concept of similarity levels: \(SL_{-2}\) (aether particles), \(SL_{-1}\) (atoms), \(SL_{0}\) (solar systems, our observational scale), \(SL_{+1}\) (the level whose atoms are our solar systems, and within whose nebular matter our galaxies sit), \(SL_{+2}\), and so on infinitely in both directions. A scaling factor of approximately \(k \approx 2.2 \times 10^{26}\) relates the characteristic distances between adjacent levels. The Symmetric State Principle ensures that no similarity level is special\(\unicode{x2014}\)every level contains the same distribution of active, transitional, and settled systems.

How the Axioms Connect

The ten axioms are not independent postulates that happen to coexist. They form an interlocking logical structure in which each axiom reinforces and depends upon others. Axiom 1 establishes the foundation: only space, matter, and motion exist. Axioms 2 through 5 define the properties of this foundation\(\unicode{x2014}\)the nature of space, the nature of matter, their conceptual totality, and the infinite extent of both. Axioms 6 through 9 then describe how matter behaves within this framework\(\unicode{x2014}\)how it moves, what energy means, that motion never ceases, and how time emerges from motion.

Axiom 10 weaves everything together. Self-similarity across scales is only possible because matter is infinitely divisible (Axiom 3) and infinite in quantity (Axiom 5). The aether of Axiom 1 becomes concrete through self-similarity: it is simply ordinary matter from two similarity levels below the observer. Energy as motion (Axiom 7) makes sense at every scale because motion is perpetual (Axiom 8) and time scales with the characteristic motions of each level (Axiom 9). Remove any one axiom, and the framework loses its coherence. Together, they form a unified mechanical picture of reality.
